what-is-the-order-of-the-eastern-star
Order of the Eastern Star is the largest fraternal organization in the world to which both men and women may belong.  Worldwide, there are currently more than 1.2 million members.  Chapters are located in the United States, Canada, Peru, Brazil, Germany, Italy and other countries around the world.  Unity Grand Chapter currently has 700+ members.

The Order of the Eastern Star was founded by Dr. Rob Morris in 1850.  Dr. Morris created the degrees of the Eastern Star around the lives of five Biblical women.  They are Jephthah's Daughter, whom he chose to call Adah; Ruth, Esther, Martha, and, from the Second Epistle of John, the Elect Lady, to whom he gave the name Electa.

He chose these women because each of them exemplifies virtues that are the tenets of the Order:  Fidelity, Love, Constancy, Loyalty, and Faith.  The principles, which are taken from the great guiding light, the Holy Bible, and the beautiful lesson as exemplified in the lives of the several Heroines found in the ritual, will result in the most useful life that can be attained.

The degrees of the Order of the Eastern Star teach us lessons to live by.  They are presented in a beautiful ritualistic ceremony designed to not only teach the lesson, but also to portray the noble principles which should adorn the personal lives of Eastern Star members.  Eastern Star strives to take good people and through uplifting and elevating associations of love and service, and through example, build an Order which is truly dedicated to charity, truth and loving kindness.  Business meetings are conducted with an open Bible on the altar in acknowledgment of the Supreme Being.

Our Purpose
separation-unity-grand-chapter
The stated purposes of the organization are:  Charitable, Educational, and Fraternal.  To this end, Unity Grand Chapter O.E.S. proudly supports the statewide community in which our Chapters exist by raising funds for organizations that complement our mission; annual youth scholarships; food pantry and many other causes. We volunteer where we best fit.  Some deliver coats to children in need, visit the sick and elderly, volunteer for the homeless, and more. We support economic growth in our communities and are advocates for all human rights causes. Collectively, our Chapters raise thousands of dollars each year to support our various charities and community service projects.

The women and men who join our Order make friends and enjoy the fellowship of fraternal sisters and Brothers who share similar goals, while being afforded the opportunity to utilize their charitable nature to benefit others.  In addition, the Order provides structure, resources and support for accomplishing benevolent objectives.
